ENGLAND might not have won the World Cup but a Runcorn resident has won a piece of football history.
A shirt, signed by legends David Beckham, Michael Owen, Wayne Rooney and the senior England squad on the eve of a 2006 World Cup qualifying game against Wales, was first prize in a raffle.
The coveted shirt helped former Halton Mayor Peter Lloyd Jones raise £1,354 to be shared between his two charities, the Canal Boat Adventure Project and Kings Cross After School Clubs. A mobile phone and DVD player were runner-up prizes.
The draw was made at Widnes Asda, last Friday.
Mr T O'Connnell of the Windmill Pub, Runcorn won the shirt, donated by John Rawlinson of PTS Property Services of Runcorn.
