RONNIE Boardman enjoyed a day of great sport on Newton Angling Association waters.

He had five tench to 4lbs plus a large number of roach, rudd and perch at Sankey Canal's Penkford Bridge section in a morning session.

Then in the evening he went to Yew Tree Reservoir, where he had a 3lb common carp, five crucian carp, a bag full of small perch, mixed with quality roach, rudd and skimmers, a perch of 2lbs and, just as he was packing up, a 15lb mirror carp.

Vulcan Reservoir is producing plenty of silver fish as well as tench, F1 carp and perch from the moment you sit down to going home. It is a great water to take the kids to learn on.

The upper pound of the Sankey Canal is fishing well for silver fish, with good bream, tench, carp, ide and F1 carp.

The lower pound is on form for small mirror and common carp up to 8lbs, tench up to the same weight, F1 carp as well as silver fish.

Both of those sections are available on day tickets at £4 for adults and £1.50 for juniors.

Maggots, caster, corn, luncheon meat, worm, and bread are all taking fish on the waters.

Members should note that no bait tins are to be taken on to our waters.

Membership to the association is still open and available from Newton Cabaret and Social Club in Patterson Street on Mondays at 8pm. New seniors should take along two small photos for their identity pass.

The association held a fundraiser open match on the upper pound of the Sankey Canal in Newton and the winner was Warrington Angling Centre's Dave Hancox.

He fished from peg 46 with maggot on long pole at 16 metres and hooked bream, tench, carp and silver fish weighing a total of 18lbs 7ozs 0drms.

In second place was Raymond Shorrocks on peg 49 with a similar catch on long pole for 16-10-0.

Third place went to Gordon Shorrocks on peg 31 with three tench and a few bits for 8-7-0.
