MARK Roughneen will again look to make an impact when Warrington Wizards entertain Featherstone Lions at Wilderspool on Saturday.

Roughneen returned to the club from Blackpool Panthers last week and scored a hat-trick on his second debut for Wizards as they thrashed Huddersfield Underbank Rangers 50-16.

It is another boost for Wizards, who had previously signed Alan Kilshaw and Chris Campbell, and are now bidding for a third successive home win against Featherstone in a match that kicks off at 3.30pm.

Featherstone are currently bottom of LHF Healthplan National League Three and Wizards coach Eddie Harris sees the game as an opportunity for his side, who have risen to fourth in the table, to stake a claim for a top-three spot.

He said: "We must continue to keep this momentum going as we look to push up to third position.

"I know we are capable of improving further and hopefully over the next few weeks we will be able to move our performances up to the next level.

"Hopefully then teams will not look forward to coming up against us."

Chris Mellor and Chris Malone should be available on Saturday after holidays, while Jon Cole, Neil Smith and Steven Smythe are expected to push for places.

WIZARDS registered a comfortable win against Huddersfield Underbank Rangers on Saturday.

Ian Stephenson slid over to give the home side the lead and centre Roughneen raced 90 metres to score soon afterwards before converting the touchdown himself.

Kilshaw's kick then allowed Campbell to score and the same man took advantage of a Rangers sin binning to make it 20-0 at half time with a second try.

Huddersfield pulled a try back after the interval but Campbell completed his hat-trick for Wizards and Roughneen grabbed his second of the game.

Tries from Andy Addison, Danny Shaw and Stephenson then helped to maintain Wizards' sizable lead before Roughneen completed his hat-trick with three minutes to go.

WARRINGTON Wizards' A team host Winnington Park in the Rugby League Conference Cheshire Division on Saturday after another defeat at the weekend.

Wizards, who take on Park at Eagle Sports Club in Great Sankey at 2pm, put in a creditable performance at Crewe despite fielding an under-strength team.

But they were well beaten by a more experienced side, although Bob Merrill, Mike Leicester and man of the match Billy Maunder crossed for the visitors.
