BEDLAM broke out in Cinnamon Brow at the weekend as drunken teenagers attacked a primary school.
Former ward councillor Mick Curran was alerted to reports of trouble at Cinnamon Brow Primary School on Saturday night and went to investigate.
As he approached, the gang of youths ran off leaving destruction in their wake. Several windows had been smashed and the youths had gained access to the building and destroyed items of furniture.
The following night, Mr Curran was again called to the site after receiving a flood of complaints from nearby residents.
This time it is believed the same group targeted the children's play area.
The play area, which was only completed last week by Prince's Trust volunteers, had been wrecked with the concrete surfacing ripped up.
Mr Curran says he called the community action team police several times but without any response.
In desperation he then dialled 999 and was told officers could not attend.
He said: "I am absolutely disgusted at this mindless vandalism. The play area in particular took a lot of hard work to achieve.
"This is a facility for little kids and then you've got big kids coming along and destroying it. It's disgusting.
"Prince's Trust volunteers put a lot of hard work in to this and it's not there a week and it's already been damaged.
"These kids don't care about anything but themselves, getting drunk and destroying things for other people.
"The community police are full of promises but no action. There's a lot of talk but nothing ever comes of it.
"I'm sick of calling and getting no response."
