ALBERT Wrench reports good sport with grayling from the Warrington Anglers' Association owned stretch of the River Derwent at Darley Abbey.
He fished his favourite stick float and loose-fed bronze maggot to net several dozen fish to just over the pound mark.
Albert also had a bonus bream of around 5lbs, two chub and a specimen perch of 2lbs.
He fished the faster water at the upstream limit, which is currently something of a hike as the inner gate giving access to the car park is locked.
That is due to someone, not necessarily an angler, failing to close the gate, which allowed cattle to stray on to adjacent property. We will be fitting our suited high security lock as soon as possible, but members should park adjacent to the inner gate for the moment.
Moore Quarry is an aquarium where part of the pleasure in fishing is to observe the variety of fish that can be seen swimming past your peg.
There have been catches of tench, bream to 8lbs and occasional carp, but generally sport is slow.
Pete Briggs fished his home-made boilies to good effect by catching mirrors of 17lbs 8ozs 0drms, 17-12-0 and 21-8-0.
Due to the hot weather, we are having the usual problems with swimmers who trespass on our fisheries and quite literally risk their lives by swimming in water of unknown depths.
Obviously they are unaware of the environmental damage they are causing to marginal vegetation and wildlife - particularly birds, some of which are sitting on eggs or have young.
Members should do no more than point out that these people are trespassing and ask them to leave. If members feel threatened, simply contact the police.
Only a few chub to 3lbs are being caught on the River Dane, where you can virtually count the stones on the bottom because it is so low and clear.
Best results are early morning and evening with bites attracted by a variety of baits, such as caster, bread and prawn - the latter accounted for three larger specimens of over 4lbs.
Several fences have been erected in an effort to keep cows from crossing the river. I am informed that they do not restrict members' access to the water.
Please note that Warrington Anglers' Association are hosting the National Federation of Anglers Cadet, Junior and Intermediate Championships on Saturday and consequently sections of the Bridgewater Canal will be closed to members.
Those sections are Preston Brook to Walton Bridge, Grappenhall Bridge to Stanney Lunt Bridge, Pickerings Bridge to Cliffe Lane Bridge. The remainder of the canal will remain open and the designated lengths can be used from 5pm.
Let me have your catch reports on 01928 716238, fax 01928 713898 or e-mail frank@warrington-anglers.org.uk. HQ Parker Street will be open as usual tomorrow, Friday, between 7pm and 9.30pm for subscriptions and new memberships.
