SIMON Grix is relieved to have earned a contract after fearing the worst at the start of the season.
A serious ankle injury prevented him from making a single first-team appearance last season but he has established himself as a regular half back this year.
Grix is now tied to the club until the end of 2009 and will become one of the 20 players that Wolves are allowed to pay £25,000 or more from next year onwards.
"It was make or break for me this year," said the 20-year-old former England Academy international, whose contract expired this season.
"If I hadn't got into the first team I would have been panicking about a new deal.
"But the club has been good to me and looked after me last year when I had my injury.
"Signing Adrian Morley also showed that we want to be up there with the best and we want to win trophies.
"Hopefully I will keep going now I've got my contract and keep my place in the team."
