YOUNGSTERS at Croft Primary School held a World Cup day earlier this month and got to hear from someone with first hand experience of the tournament.

Roger Hunt, World Cup winner and Culcheth resident, dropped in to a school assembly to talk about how it felt to win the 1966 competition.

Abby Weilding, a year five pupil, said: "He told us about his football days, what it was like walking out on to the pitch and how it felt to win the 1966 World Cup.

"He also brought in the England cap that he received for playing in the final. He then answered any questions that we had.

"At the end of the day we were all given a signed photo of Roger Hunt and his fellow team mates playing in the final against Germany."

The children went to school dressed in team colours and also enjoyed a themed lunch.
