RAIL bosses are concerned that Chapelford station will not be built, says a transport campaigner.
Brian Simpson, chairman of the North West Rail Campaign, said train companies are worried about the apparent lack of progress.
The station is supposed to serve more than 2,000 homes being built in the Chapelford Urban Village and developers have provided land and funding - and told residents it will be built.
Warrington Borough Council has stopped work on the financial case for the station pending the decision on the much-delayed Omega business park.
Mr Simpson said: "There's been concern in the rail industry for a while that Chapelford may not be built.
"No stops have been planned for it in the North West Route Utilisation Strategy. My view is that it's not moving as quickly as people in the industry had hoped. Network Rail can't move without the borough council."
A Network Rail spokesman said: "To arrive at the stage where a new station can be considered by the industry as a whole, the proposer needs to demonstrate a business case for the station.
"No such business case has yet been established for a new station in the Sankey area."
