THE trial of a policeman accused of assaulting a suspect during a drugs raid before planting evidence has stalled after one of the main witnesses was hospitalised.

Preston Crown Court will not be hearing evidence in the case of PC Christopher Jude, aged 27, until Monday at the earliest, following the development.

He has denied charges of wounding with intent and attempting to pervert the course of justice.

The case against him and three others, PCs Steven McGhee, 29, Garry Doolan, 33, and Peter Gannon, 34, who are accused of misconduct in a public office and attempting to pervert the course of justice, started last Tuesday.

It was originally expected to run for five weeks.

A court order has barred the release of any further details of the defendants' identity.
