TOWN centre buildings projects will take a back seat to front line services, senior Conservative members of the new Lib-Dem/Tory ruling alliance have said.
They think people believe too much emphasis is given to major projects when it should be given to everyday services like grass cutting and cleaning up graffiti.
Clr Fiona Bruce told a recent public meeting in Penketh: "We are spending millions on buildings in the town centre but what matters more to people isn't flash new buildings, its being safe in your community everyday.
"There's a new view of how we should be spending money for our communities and we want more money spent on the front line."
Tory leader Clr Keith Bland said: "The town centre is still a massive thing for us - we need a thriving town centre.
"But we also believe we need to be looking at regenerating and improving quality of life outside of it."
He said money would be generated from savings on contractors and possibly by selling off council buildings like Legh Street Baths.
Both stressed that money will not be diverted away from the inner wards.
