ANTI-social anglers who litter and urinate along Middlewich's canals are giving others a bad name, a resident says
Chris Overton, whose Brooks Lane home backs on to the Trent and Mersey Canal, says a group of men in their 20s fish by Wardle Lock on a number of evenings a week.
She said: "I was sitting in the garden the other night and they were urinating by the wall.
"They also take cans of sweetcorn there to feed the fish and leave the cans there.
"These men are in their mid to late 20s, they're not youngsters.
"If you've got kids on boats pulling up to get water at the water point or walking past it's just not on."
Chris, a member of Middlewich Clean Team, said they are also drinking by the canal, a no drinking zone, and leaving their litter there when their cars are parked next to a bin.
She said: "It gives proper fishermen a bad name.
"There were 50 plus fishermen here for matches earlier this year and they left no litter."
She added: "They're there three or four evenings a week.
"They are quiet, not rowdy, but it just doesn't seem right and they are not a good advert for the kids, leaving litter lying around."
PC Mike Senior, from Middlewich CAT team, said: "If these men are caught littering they will be subject to a penalty.
"For urinating in a public place they could potentially be arrested under the Public Order Act."
