A CRASH on a busy Middlewich road has prompted safety fears from a concerned family man.

A silver Ford Escort and blue Citroen C3 were in collision on Croxton Lane shortly after 9am on June 27, prompting father-of-two Graham Johnson to renew his plea for safety measures.

The 37-year-old, who lives in Croxton Lane, wrote to Cheshire County Council earlier this year to highlight the dangers of the road as it nears Middlewich town centre.

He said the problems are caused as the road bends sharply by its junction with Croxton Lane and there are cars frequently parked on double yellow lines around the corner.

Graham said: "The main problem is that it's a bit of a blind bend and with the cemetery gates on the corner people park on double yellow lines to visit the cemetery.

"It's also a busy road and traffic backs up from the mini roundabout.

"When drivers come around the bend they can be faced with parked cars, stationary vehicles or, even worse, someone crossing the road to go to the cemetery."

He added: "I've lived here for eight years and have gradually noticed it getting worse and worse.

"One of these days the danger is that someone will get knocked over - a car accident is bad enough but it's only a car.

"If it was a pedestrian or a child crossing the road it would be a lot more serious.

"Having two children of my own, walking into town with them and crossing roads, the one thing I worry most about is someone coming round the corner and having an accident.

"I'm not suggesting major restrictions but some signs to say it's a sharp bend or anything to try to raise the profile of it as a 30mph limit."
