RESIDENTS are forming an action group to deal with parking and speeding problems on Lydyett Lane, Barnton.

The group is to organise a questionnaire to deliver to houses affected after long standing complaints about the issue.

Barnton DIY owner Paul Brotherton said: "It's an accident waiting to happen. We had three head on crashes last year and another two accidents this year.

"It is getting worse. The parking down Lydyett Lane is horrendous. They all park outside the Co-op and block the road."

He added: "Last week two cars were coming in opposite directions and neither would give way. They sat there for 15 minutes.

"My business is being badly affected. I might have to move out of the area."

Another resident said his children had to jump out of the way as a car mounted the pavement and drove down it at a speed of more than 20mph.

Barnton parish councillor John Turnbull said the parish council had been protesting about speed and parking for a long time.

He said: "We want the village behind us in this.

"We need to do a survey of residents to give to the county council."

Parish Clr Stefan Harazny said: "We have already asked for a one-way system but the county council refused our request."

Five residents, who attended the parish council meeting, agreed to organise the survey.
