Winnington Park 39
Runcorn Vikings 32
RUNCORN Vikings showed enough character and determination against Winnington Park to keep their Rugby League Conference Cheshire Division play-off hopes burning.
The Vikings face off with Chester Wolves in the final game of the regular season at Moore Rugby Club on Saturday and will hope for a win before their assault on the play-offs.
Despite trailing 20-0 with just 20 minutes gone at Winnington, Runcorn dragged themselves back into the game and led twice in the second half before succumbing to a narrow defeat.
Luke Perry touched down to begin the scoring for the away side.
Further tries from Steven Arrowsmith and Liam Wilde ensured that the deficit was cut to 20-14 by half time.
Kyle McGreavey and Ian Fozard touched down, with Ward converting, to put Runcorn ahead but he lead was short-lived as Winnington drew level with another try.
Runcorn regained the lead through Kieron Walker, with Ward once more adding the extras, but again the home side scored to draw level.
Winnington wrapped the game up with a late try and drop goal.
