A NEW community group which aims to improve life for young people in Wincham has been formed and has taken its first steps forward.

Wincham parish councillor Christine Patterson has spent months trying to set up a residents' group to transform Linnards Lane playing fields into an adventure haven for children and teenagers and has now formed T2T - tots to teens.

Clr Patterson said her desire to develop the play area was the main reason she joined the parish council last year.

She said: "There's not much in the way of facilities there. I've got two boys aged five and seven and they're football mad. It's just a shame that we have to go all that way when we could have something on our doorstep."

The group is keen to get plans up and running and has taken action to get ideas off the ground.

Clr Patterson said: "We have submitted our first grant application and intend to hold an annual general meeting later this year as we are still in need of committee members although they do not actually need to do that much as the main roles are filled.

"We will have a stand at the school summer fair with our initial plans and ideas on display and Evelyn Rees, Vale Royal's play development officer, who is supporting us, will also be there.

"There will also be a petition for anyone to sign to show how much the village actually wants a new play area which we would like as many people as possible to sign to show their support."
