VILLAGERS in Weaverham do not have long to wait until the ever-popular annual rose fete arrives.

The show, which is in its 80th year, will be held on Saturday and fete secretary Caroline Walton said there really will be something for everyone on the day.

She added: "Everything is pretty much organised now. It has all gone to plan and we are right on track for Saturday.

"The procession starts at Lime Avenue at 12.30pm before following a route down Riddings Lane, past St Mary's Church, Northwich Road, Forsters Avenue, back onto Lime Avenue and Russet Road.

"We are aiming to be back at Lakehouse Field by 2pm and the rose queen Melissa Hamilton will be crowned at about 3pm."

Miss Personality Jessica Birtles, princess Laura Eastwood, fairy queen Naomi Christmas, rosebud Chloe Leigh Van Embden, Miss Valentine Rebecca Glaze and prince consort Jack Morgan will also be honoured on the day.

And Caroline says there will be plenty of other attractions to keep spectators entertained.

She added: "We have managed to secure a few more entertainment bookings for the day, for example Weaverham High School which will be having a disco and dancing.

"We have six troops booked in as well and 34 visiting queens and we are still taking calls from others so it will be a good show.

"This is also the first time in 20 years when a Weaverham Russet, a person raised in the village, will be crowning another Weaverham Russet so it will be a really nice occasion.

"The children in the village are all really excited and at our last rehearsal they kept saying they couldn't wait for the day and were asking how much longer it would be."

Stalls selling items from tiaras to tea will be on offer.
