A WINSFORD man has sent a message home to his friends and family after he completed the latest of a series of missions in Iraq.
L/Cpl Simon Lumsden, 24, has just finished his second tour of Iraq as part of the Queen's Royal Hussars and has been working to keep the peace and return order to the country.
He said: "So far we have carried out taskings in Basrah, Al Amarah and the Iran-Iraq border.
"With the constant threat from both mortar and IED attacks the work never stops."
L/Cpl Lumsden, of Springbank Crescent, decided to join the Army at the age of 19 and has never looked back.
He said: "My brother was keen on joining the Army and I wasn't but we both went to the Chester recruiting office and signed up together.
"He never made it past the tests but I did so off I went to join."
The former Verdin High School pupil is now looking forward to returning home in November to spend time with his family and fiance Claudia.
