PART of the new Golden Square car park will be open to shoppers as of Monday next week.

Temporary parking will be available on the second floor of the car park, which is currently under construction by developers Lend Lease.

The temporary section, which holds 260 cars, has views of the Golden Square development as it rises from the ground.

By the end of the summer there will be 850 spaces available when a completed section of the car park opens.

The temporary car park is situated next to the newly built bus interchange and is accessed via the spiral ramp on Midland Way.

New stairs and lifts also provide direct access to the Golden Square shopping complex.

Opening hours for the car park are 7am to 7pm, Monday to Saturday, and 9am to 6pm on Sundays, with the tariff set at 80p for one hour, rising to £4.30 for more than four hours, with free parking on Sundays.

The temporary car park, on John Street, will also remain open until Monday, August 7.

Parking will continue to be free of charge for the first three hours, Monday to Saturday, and free of charge all day on Sunday.

The John Street car park is open from 8am-7pm, Monday to Saturday, and 10am-4pm on Sunday.

David Allinson, general manager at Golden Square, said: "The opening of the temporary car park is a major landmark in the development work at Golden Square.

"By the end of the summer, Warrington's shoppers will have a fantastic, modern facility, leading to a massively improved shopping experience. The town centre as a whole will also benefit, as we will ultimately be accommodating 1,700 cars at a time."
