HUNDREDS of youngsters turned out in style to celebrate Grappenhall Walking Day on Saturday - although this year it had a new look.

Children from St Wilfrid's Primary School, St Wilfrid's Church and the Independent Methodist Church took part, as well as Guides, Brownies, Cubs, Beavers and Rainbows.

But the historic walking day missed one tradition - the spectacular parade.

Due to 'budgetary reasons' the community couldn't follow the usual village procession, as Warrington Borough Council did not enforce road closures.

The walking day service was held at the Methodist Church with refreshments and entertainment for participants, while over at St Wilfrid's, a bouncy castle, an array of sideshows and other attractions were set up for visitors on the school field.

Members of both churches also attended a joint service at the Methodist Church on Sunday afternoon.
