CONTRACTORS will have to cover the cost of putting hazard strips on the wrong side of a road.
They made the mistake outside Lymm High School in Oughtrington Lane.
They put the red hazard lines on the side of the road that leads away from the school during work last week.
Resident Frank O'Gorman, who took pictures of the blunder, said: "I couldn't believe my eyes. It could be an expensive mistake!"
The lines were to warn drivers of a 20mph zone outside the school, as part of the Safer Routes to School project.
John Drake, capital team leader for Warrington Borough Council's transport department, said: "Unfortunately, the contractor implementing the works misread the drawings provided, resulting in the markings being implemented on the wrong section of carriageway.
"Officers from within the traffic management and safety unit identified the error immediately and have instructed the contractor to undertake remedial works to extend the markings across the full width of the carriageway and to cover the costs. As with any such scheme, the works will be monitored and any further works will be carried out if required."
