CREWE Wolves blew a great chance to get back to winning ways at Runcorn Vikings.
Win number three of the season was odds on until a late collapse, last Saturday.
A fiercely contested first-half saw both sides make it to the try line twice.
Stand-off Simon Burley ran through to open the scoring on seven minutes before the Vikings hit back with a converted try.
Home winger Kyle McGreavey put his side further ahead but Wolves scrum half Chris Foster made the most of an interception to reduce the deficit to 10-8 at the break.
Foster struck again and also bagged a penalty as Crewe looked set to celebrate at 16-10.
However injuries to Paul Baggley, Simon Walter and John Smith unsettled the side.
Conceding penalties, Wolves crumbled in the final eight minutes as Ian Cheveau, Tim Leech and Rob Corrish took advantage for a 26-16 win.
"I'm furious because we gave the game away," blasted coach Ian Roberts.
"After the performance against Liverpool this leaves us a new mountain to climb."
They entertain Warrington Wizards at Legends, this Saturday, KO 2.30pm.
