CLUB stalwart Nick Price will mastermind Crewe and Nantwich RUFC's latest bid for promotion.

After 27 years' service, he gets the top job as the Vagrants-based outfit look to finally escape SLC Division Two, next season.

Matt Farr's taken them close to no avail over the past few years and his departure paves the way for Price to step in as coach.

Farr's contribution both on and off the pitch will be greatly missed but a decision to retire from playing ultimately led to him moving on.

The opportunity to return as head coach at Chester was too good to turn down with his former club higher within the pyramid system.

But Price has served his apprenticeship under Farr's tenure and will be looking to do things his way.

A former 1st XV prop between 1979 and 1993, Price will be assisted by Andy Thompson who has been forced to quit playing on medical advice.

"Nick has been a member of Crewe and Nantwich for 27 years," said club spokesperson Alan Jones.

"He's been first team manager for the past four years gaining a lot of experience under Matt Farr.

"Nick intends to gain his level three coaching qualifications this year and intends to organise specialist coaching sessions using experienced ex players."

The club has already recruited a second New Zealander to bolster the squad with Donny Ngatai returning after a year's sabbatical.

Danny Potts again captains the first team as they bid for success this season.

Training at the Vagrants starts on Tuesday at 6.45pm, with twice-weekly sessions on Tuesdays and Thursdays following.

Potential players at various levels are welcome to attend.
