AN audience was due to enjoy an evening of glitz and glamour at Bridgewater High School, yesterday, as students performed a series of elaborate dance routines.

The theatrical dance event, which was called A Night Out At The Oscars, was the brainchild of Bridgewater's dance department and attracted more than 150 people.

Julie Heal, press officer at the school, said: "It's a celebration of the outstanding accomplishments of pupils across the age ranges at Bridgewater both upper and lower school."

Pupils aged between 11 and 17 got involved and had to endure intensive training after school and at weekends.

The two-hour presentation featured a compere between scenes, a pianist and pupils dancing to various Oscar themes.

To ensure the evening was a prestigious affair, guests were asked to keep to the same dress code you would expect at the real Oscars with prom style dresses for the ladies and suits for the gentlemen.

Mrs Heal added: "We really went down the movie madness route and the props were amazing. There was a seven-foot novelty Oscar, glittery VIP signs, a powerpoint screen showing live footage and helium balloons."
