AN Egerton Primary School pupil was chosen from hundreds of youngsters to play in a football tournament in London.
Alexander Weatherby, who is in year six, was picked to play in the Danone Nations Cup competition at trials in Manchester. The young footballer (pictured) recently travelled to the Crystal Palace National Stadium in London
for the tournament. All the children watched England in the World Cup on a big screen.
The 10 to 12-year-olds were then split into six teams at random. Unfortunately, Alexander's team, the Panthers, did not win the cup. But the youngster said he enjoyed meeting new people and getting a kit with his name on the back signed by ex-Arsenal and England captain Tony Adams. "My coach wanted to arrange a trial at Arsenal's academy for me," he said.
