GRAPPENHALL Cricket Club will celebrate their 125th anniversary on Sunday when teams led by club stalwarts Nick Sharp and Neil Titchard face each other.

The match will start at 2pm and will come 24 hours after the first team host Middlewich in the Cheshire County Cricket League Second Division. Grappers grabbed a five-wicket victory at Congleton at the weekend, with former Lancashire bowler Paul Ridgway taking five wickets as Congleton were bowled out for 184. An opening partnership between skipper Richard Green and New Zealander Ron Hart then set Grappers on the right path. Green went for 36 but Hart amassed a majestic 75 to help the visitors to victory with five wickets and 15 overs to spare.

Grappenhall's second team, who travel to Middlewich's seconds on Saturday, moved to the top of their league with a draw against high-flying Macclesfield's seconds.

Grappers made steady progress in their innings but only Dave Nicholson, who hit 80, scored significantly as they finished on 198 for 9. Tight bowling from Matt Fitchett, 5 for 21, and Andy Tetlow halted Macclesfield's run chase but Grappers failed to take the final wicket in the final overs as their opponents made 100 for 9. Grappenhall's thirds endured a disappointing draw at Poynton's third team. Tetlow took two wickets but Poynton reached 208 for 6 in their innings. Early wickets then hampered Grappenhall's bid and, although Tetlow and Tom Roberts finished on 43 and 40 not out respectively, the visitors could only amass 162 for 7 from their 45 overs.
