Teams wanted for five-a-side event

TEAMS are being sought for a fundraising five-a-side tournament at the Powerleague Centre in Orford on July 30.

The competition is being organised by Paul Rigby to help his friend Neil, who has been heavily involved with Powerleague but has had to quit a full-time job to care for his baby after his wife died shortly following the birth.

Teams wanting to enter the Long Lane event for a fee of £35, with all funds going to Neil and his baby, can contact Paul on 483505.

Culcheth fun day

CULCHETH Croquet Club and Culcheth Petanque Club will be holding a fun day at Culcheth Sports Club on July 15.

The event provides an open invitation to try the two sports free of charge, with members of the croquet and petanque sections of the providing tuition.

All equipment will be provided but those wishing to take part should wear flat shoes.

Culcheth Croquet Club's next competitive event will be the North West Championships in Southport at the weekend.

Bank Quay back

BANK Quay Bulls begin pre-season training at Longshaw Street on Monday at 6.30pm.

Bulls, who will train at the same venue on July 6 at 6.30pm, have also been invited to take part in the Leigh Miners Champion Challenge.

New or past players wanting to get involved with the club are welcome to attend training.

Bulldogs training

BURTONWOOD Bulldogs' under 16s rugby league side have started pre-season training.

New or experienced players are welcome to attend when the club, who have fully qualified coaches, train again at Fir Tree Lane on Saturday at 10am.

Barrett homes in

WARRINGTON Triathlon Club's Maria Barrett was the first across the line in her age group at the Chester Deva Triathlon at the weekend.

Barrett finished third overall in the women's race in two hours and 17 minutes. Richard Steed was fifth in his age group and 19th overall in the men's race in two hours and 11 minutes.

Lily Redish Main

STOCKTON Heath Women's Bowls Club's Lily Redish Main was won by I Titchard.

She defeated B Toft in the final, while A Britland and J Blake were the losing semi finalists.

Entries required

ENTRIES are being received for the Newton Darts Open at Newton Social Club on July 23.

The 501 competition will have a total prize fund of £1,000 and registration will take place between 10.45am and 11.45am on the day, with the tournament starting at 12.15pm.

Entry will cost £10 on the day but anyone wanting to enter in advance for £6 can attend Newton Social Club or contact Douggie on 07784 954458.
