FISHING form has been quite steady on all Lymm Angling Club waters over the past week but reports from the rivers are very thin on the ground.

Lymmvale is now at its best for me, with tench dominating the action throughout the day and night.

Carp, chub and the odd barbel and rudd are providing variety, especially to non-specialising pleasure anglers.

Whitley Pool continues to provide consistent and reliable action, with smallish carp, crucians and tench providing the bulk of the action.

That steady action has often built up into significant hauls, such as the one put together by member Tom Crellin, who landed numerous carp including a personal best ghost carp of 6lbs.

Over the road, Village Pool is obliging everybody, with pleasure anglers and carp anglers of all abilities catching very well.

The encouraging thing about Village Pool is the size of the silver fish, with rudd and roach weighing more than 1lb being caught in numbers.

Belmont Pool action has been dominated by its smaller inhabitant carp, with numerous banked over the past week.

In among the fish caught have been the more normally sized carp approaching 20lbs. It is strange how one size range dominates the action from time to time.

Tabley Moat carp are being as elusive as ever. They require a lot of work to find and I have the view that the best tackle to use for the first few sessions is not rods or reels, but sunglasses, a pair of binoculars, a notebook and a bucketful of patience.

Members who take that approach are amazed at what they see and can be very confident that there are plenty of big specimens to target.

Night fishing offers the best possible opportunity to catch well, with fish coming into the very shallow margins to feed.

During daylight hours anglers are very visible to the fish and therefore it is vitally important to make use of any features available, including lily beds and overhanging trees.

Member Eddie Jones reports that he has had very good sessions on all the waters he has fished, including Beech Pool and Lymmvale Stockpond.

It was on the Stockpond that he gained most action with carp and tench the providers of most of the sport.

Eddie is a good all rounder, enabling him to target the fish giving best action, regardless of the time of year.
