INTREPID bikers set off this week on a gruelling mission - riding 845 miles from Lands End to John O'Groats.
The four men drive for Widnes Taxis and have never attempted anything like this.
"We know it's going to be a challenge," said Barrie Shuker, 45. "We just wanted to do something for Halton Haven. Quite a few of us have had relatives go through there. It's our way of saying thank you for all they do."
Big-hearted taxi drivers and cabbies throughout Halton have already pledged £1,000 for the Silver Saddle Challenge to mark the hospice's 25th birthday celebration.
Neil McLean, aged 50, Dave Wycherley, aged 47, and Andy Wainwright, aged 41 and Barrie set off for Lands End on Sunday.
"We're not aiming to beat any records," said Barrie, who only sat on the saddle for the first time this year.
"I've always wanted a bike but never had the courage to do it. It's quite exhilarating and a lot of fun.
"We're putting safety first and will have plenty of stops. We hope to do it in two days."
