A SPECIAL event to promote fall prevention among older people will take place next week in Birchwood Shopping Centre.
Organised by Warrington Primary Care Trust and The Pension Service, the event, from 10am until 3pm on Tuesday, will offer advice and information on how to reduce the risk of falls and fractures.
The event will also offer taster sessions of chair-based exercises throughout the day, a sloppy slipper exchange and advice on entitlements and benefits for those aged 60 and over.
Raising awareness of falls is a critical issue since one person dies every five hours as a result of falling.
It remains the biggest cause of accidental death for older people.
Falls are not an inevitable part of ageing and working to reduce the risk of falls and fractures will help thousands of older people maintain independence and mobility into later life.
The day's theme is Step Into the Future, which encourages laying the groundwork now for healthy older age tomorrow.
