TWO Winsford men who went on the rampage at a 40th birthday party at Barton Stadium have been jailed.

James Cross and Stuart Farrell, both 19 and of Dee Way, were sentenced in Chester Crown Court yesterday, Tuesday, after they burst into the party armed with bottles and hoods over their faces.

The incident took place on February 2 when the pair began randomly attacking guests, causing women and children to flee in terror.

In evidence one witness said: "I could not believe what I was seeing - it was like a scene out of the movies.

"Children and women were screaming and people were running around in panic."

John Oates, prosecuting, told the court that the incident started when Cross and Farrell began to insult a group of young girls who had gone outside for some fresh air.

Cross later claimed he had been assaulted first by a male guest at the party but admitted returning later to carry out a revenge attack.

The court also heard that on another occasion police were called to Cross' girlfriend's flat after reports of a disturbance when the 19-year-old claimed a gang had barged their way into the property.

On arriving at the scene officers saw Cross being restrained on the stairs brandishing what appeared to a pistol.

The pistol was later confirmed to be an air weapon but when he was being arrested he told officers that he would 'shoot them right between the eyes'.

While on bail Cross stopped one of the men he claimed had barged into his girlfriend's flat and hit him over the head with a bottle.

Judge David Hale sent Cross to a young offenders institution for three-and-a-half years and Farrell was sent into custody for 21 months.
