A RESIDENT says someone is going to be killed in Cuddington after a series of accidents and near misses on the stretch of Norley Road below Waste Lane.

The woman, who does not wish to be named, has called for a footpath on Waste Lane and a reduction in the speed limit.

She says cars regularly travel on that part at speeds of up to 70mph.

Cuddington and Sandiway Parish Council has pleaded for a number of years for an extension to the speed restriction area and the introduction of some form of traffic calming measures.

But Cheshire County Council has consistently stated the road does not meet the required criteria for a lower speed limit.

The resident said: "It is absolute madness.

"Cars are speeding down the road and it is only a matter of time before there is a serious accident, or something much worse.

"When is someone in authority going to realise that this just cannot continue? It has been going on for years and nothing is ever done about it.

"Why on earth can't we have a footpath down by the side of the road? What is more important, money or lives?"

Parish chairman Ken Nixon said: "Waste Lane is a very difficult road to come out of, especially when cars are flying down there in speeds in excess of 30mph."

He added: "The council is talking about the possibility of taking the 30mph speed past the entry to Watermill Farm."
