CHESHIRE County Council is set to introduce a household waste permit scheme in a bid to combat illegal trade waste deposits.

Restrictions, which will affect commercial vehicles and large trailers, are being introduced at Cheshire's 16 household waste recycling centres to improve service and make recycling more attractive to Cheshire residents.

Householders affected by the vehicle restrictions will be issued with free permits for the disposal of their household waste.

Cty Clr Andrew Needham said: "Existing measures at our centres are having limited impact on preventing trade waste.

"The new scheme will help to alleviate increased waste and increased cost to the taxpayer while also reducing queuing times for householders and helping Cheshire to meet the Government's recycling targets.

"Permits are completely free and will be issued for the disposal of household waste only."

Owners of cars, multi-purpose vehicles and non-commercial 4X4's will not be affected by the permit scheme.

Permits can be applied for online at www.cheshire.gov.uk or by ringing 0845 002 0134.
