STREETWISE young people are helping to steer teenagers in the right direction.
They are passing on their own practical tips and knowledge as mentors in a pioneering careers initiative.
"I had six jobs from leaving school so I'm comfortable answering most of the issues that come up," said apprentice
Marcus Bruce, aged 20.
"It has made me feel more mature and now my mates are starting to ask me for some advice as well.
"I like to work with young people, particularly those who aren't sure what to do and may be at risk of slipping out of some kind of education or training.
"I think they listen to me because I can tell them about experiences I had."
Advice and guidance partner
-ship Connexions has recruited a team of apprentices to act as personal advisors to 13-19-year-olds.
Connexions' chief executive, Kieran Gordon, said: "The apprentice personal advisers are close to the real issues affecting young people and young people relate to them because of that."
