NEWTON firefighters were called out to an incident on the M62 on Sunday after a van was involved in a collision with a car.
A Cheshire fire crew was already at the scene and had cut two males free from the van.
They had suffered multiple injuries and were taken to Whiston Hospital.
The Newton team arrived around 5.30pm and worked at the scene between junction 8 at Burtonwood and junction 7, Rainhill for half an hour. They released a 60-year-old man and 56-year-old woman from the car and administered them first aid.
The pair, who both suffered whiplash, were also taken to Whiston Hospital.
