A SURVEY of more than 1,000 people has shown 90 per cent support the Creamfields move to Daresbury.

More than nine out of 10 people from the 1,000 questioned earlier this month in Warrington and Halton said they thought the event would be of benefit to Warrington and said it was good an event of this stature was being attracted to the area.

A majority also said they would consider attending.

Cream chief executive James Barton said: "The figures are beyond even what we could have hoped for and show that there is a groundswell of public support for the event.

"People believe that there will be benefits both in economic terms and in having the Creamfields brand so closely aligned with the area.

"We remain confident that our licence application will be granted and are delighted with these results."

Around half could identify Daresbury as the proposed venue while 57 per cent said they would consider attending the August bank holiday event.

The survey was carried out by an independent freelance market research team.

The licence application to decide if the event goes ahead takes place next Tuesday at Halton Borough Council.
