A POLICE officer has warned against the dangers of drink driving at the inquest of a man who died on a Warrington road.

PC Mark Pine, who investigated the accident on Birchwood Way, on December 21 last year, said while it wasn't clear how Jeffrey Bradley died, drinking and then driving was a risk.

The court had earlier heard how Mr Bradley was more than two times over the legal alcohol limit when his van crossed in to the wrong carriageway and collided with a HGV at around 10pm.

He died from multiple injuries

The officer told Warrington Coroners' Court: "The circumstances are consistent with him being distracted or having fallen asleep.

"The amount of alcohol would have affected Mr Bradley's ability to drive as any amount will."

The court had head that Mr Bradley, aged 35, was returning to his Locking Stumps home after visiting his brother after work.

They had shared a bottle of wine.

As he drove back, HGV driver Marc Smith, from Grappenhall, was coming the opposite way.

He told the court he noticed the driver lose control, but after Mr Bradley regained control, the car swerved on to the wrong carriageway, hitting the HGV.

Mr Bradley died from multiple injuries.

Deputy coroner for Cheshire, Dr Janet Napier, said while the alcohol was a factor, there could be no specific reason for the accident. She recorded a verdict of accidental death.
