ON Sunday, my friends and I were shocked to find that at Risley Independent Methodist Church, we would not be walking along Fearnhead Lane on Padgate Walking Day as normal.
Why? Because the police force have refused to marshal us.
Instead we will be walking along the pavement, which in some places is so narrow that only two people can walk side by side when it isn't blocked by cars.
Every year, all over Warrington, increasing numbers of walking days are being jeopardised simply because the police force refuses to accompany them.
For decades Risley Church has participated by walking on the road.
There have been no problems before.
The police wouldn't dare to prevent other faiths pursuing their traditions, so why are they constantly trying to erode our Christian traditions of walking days in Warrington?
Risley Independent Methodist Church is 200 years old this year.
Thank you Chief Constable for a wonderful birthday present.
