FISH are now well and truly breeding on Newton Angling Association waters.

The fringes are full of fish and they are not interested in taking baits.

Any impatient anglers need to develop a certain degree of understanding at this time and perhaps a little more patience with regards to catch rates.

Vulcan Reservoir is fishing quite well with crucian carp, F1 carp, tench, roach, rudd, ide, skimmers and perch providing some good sport. Caster, maggot corn, punched bread and meat, pinky and worm are all taking fish.

It is a similar story on the Yew Tree Reservoir with the same baits producing, and roach are plentiful if you can fish the drop method on pole. Carp are on the surface and taking off the bottom while some good bream and tench are coming out as well.

Haydock Park Farm is fishing very well for silver fish and carp.

The Lagoon is producing some great catches of rudd and roach on the drop and other fish like skimmers, perch, tench and koi carp are also there to be caught.

Cow Hay Dam is producing some good catches of roach, hybrids, skimmers, rudd, perch and some quality carp up to and into double figures.

The Sankey Canal upper pound is fishing quite well for silver fish, bream, tench, perch and carp.

The lower pound is fishing well for carp to 8lbs, tench to the same, bream and silver fish.

Day tickets are available off the banking on those two waters.

Two rods are permitted on those two waters, with one rod allowed on any other association water. A pole and a rod are not allowed on any of our waters.

The members-only section at Penkford Bridge is fishing well with silver fish dominating sport but some great tench, bream, perch, brownies and carp are present.

Fish were more interested in breeding than feeding for the committee and workers match (the Billy Middleham Memorial Trophy) on Yew Tree Reservoir.

Committee member Wayne O'Shea came out on top. Fishing worm and caster he had tench, roach and skimmers on pole at 10 metres for 8lbs 10ozs 0drms.

In second place was association secretary Eddie Marcroft with a mixed bag of roach, skimmers and small perch for 6-0-0 using maggot fished on the drop at eight metres.

Third place went to committee member Ivor Brown, who had a mixed bag of small roach, perch and skimmers for 4-10-0.
