THE son of one of Warrington Wolves' all-time great try scorers is carrying on the family tradition of representing his country.
Rylands half back Chris Forster is one of four Warringtonians to be selected for the Ireland Students squad which will compete in the European Under 19s Rugby League Championships in the south of France next month.
The 18-year-old from Woolston is the son of ex-Wolves winger Mark Forster, who touched down 191 tries for the club between 1983 and 2000 before moving to Widnes RLFC and finishing his professional career playing for Ireland against France in 2001.
Mark, who is head coach at Rylands, said: "We're proud of him. He's carrying on the tradition of playing for Ireland, which is great.
"His strengths are his hands and his kicking game and he is gaining a lot more confidence after playing in the first team and the under 18s last season."
Apprentice electrician Chris, who qualifies for Ireland through his great-grandfather, will be attending St Helens College in September.
He will have plenty of Warrington company in France with five students from Priestley College, where Chris was a student last year, also being involved.
Orford's Daniel O'Brien, aged 17, Great Sankey's Stephen Lenihan, aged 16, and Callands' Adam Williams, aged 19, will be aiming to help Ireland wrestle the title away from England, who will have prop Matthew Barber and scrum half Dave Rolt in their ranks.
Ireland and England are due to clash on July 5 in Canet-en-Rousillon, near to Perpignan, and both nations will also play against Serbia to determine who will face the winners of the second group (Wales, Scotland, France) in the Championship final on July 12.
* A race night will be held at Rylands Recreation Club on Saturday to help raise funds for Chris Forster's trip. The first race will be at 7pm and all are welcome.
