THE most important day in the Orford community calendar went down a treat at the weekend, despite the elements doing their best to spoil the fun.
But a few drops of rain didn't dampen the spirits of the churches and schools that took part in the 22nd annual walk.
Seasoned walkers came prepared and brought brollies to spare, making sure that everyone enjoyed the community spirit of the day.
But for others like eight-week-old Joel Eccleston, who made his walking day debut on Sunday, the massive community event seemed a little overwhelming.
Despite being a little damp by the time the parade arrived at Orford Park for the annual festival, walkers soon dried off in a marquee set up after vandals destroyed the community centre.
And once refreshments had been served, it was time to sample a new festival format with entertainment and acts to suit all ages.
This year the event was spread out over the park instead of in a main arena to encourage visitors to wander around the park.
The Red Rose Brass Band and Silver Bell Band from Preston gave rousing performances throughout the day and in doing so, gained a new Warrington fan base.
Particular favourites for younger visitors were the Punch and Judy show and a balloon sculptor as well as the ever-popular Chadwick's fair.
And dads enjoyed a Fathers' Day treat when they met Dennis the European Eagle Owl courtesy of The Vale Royal Falconry Experience.
Juliet Legge, chairman of the Orford Park Festival Committee, said: "Despite the walk being rained on it didn't spoil the day. It would take a lot more than just a bit of rain to send people home.
"Thankfully, the rain held off for the festival and the new less compact format seemed to work well. Around 3,000 people turned up and from the feedback we've received, they certainly weren't disappointed.
"Special thanks must go to the council who closed off the roads for us making the event a lot safer than in previous years. We are very grateful. And to the rangers who work so hard to make the festival a success." sharker@guardiangrp.co.uk
