A TRIP to Thelwall's Rose Queen was like a journey round the globe on Saturday.

Because each of the floats that formed part of the procession in the village adopted a country for the annual event to tie in with the city theme.

From Thelwall Infants to the

Cubs, Brownies and Scouts, the procession made its way from Thelwall Industrial Estate to Chaigeley School.

This year's Rose Queen was 14-year-old Victoria Powell who takes over from Chelsey Hickle.

The Lymm High School pupil plays football for Warrington under 14s and volunteers with her mum at the Fair4All stall at Warrington Market.

She said: "I have lived in Thelwall all my life and took part in my first Rose Queen procession in a pushchair behind the mums and tots float in 1992.

"I remember a couple of years later as a toddler thinking that the Rose Queen looked like a princess from a fairytale and now I am old enough to wear

the crown myself."

There was also a float full of Has-beens dressed as Robin Hood characters!

Chris White, dressed as Friar Tuck, said: "A lot of our kids have grown up now but we still wanted to take part so here we are!"
