POLICE are hunting a handbag thief who left empty-handed when his victim fought back.
The attempted robbery took place when a woman was walking along Padgate Lane next to the train station at about 5pm on June 7.
Cheshire police say she was followed along the road by a teenager who attempted to snatch her handbag. The woman refused to let go of it and was dragged down the steps leading to the subway, which runs under the road.
Members of the public went to her assistance and chased the attacker but he disappeared near St Mary's Church on Station Road.
A Cheshire police spokesman said the woman had cuts and bruises and was shaken up.
The male was white, and between 16 and 18 years old. He was skinny, with dark, untidy hair, and wearing a grey hooded Lacoste top and jeans.
