THE chairman of the Northwich Vics' Supporters Trust says the views expressed last week by John Gleave are his own and not the majority of the board.

Last week Mr Gleave said members of the group were ready to vote on whether the body should fold.

He said the trust was being wrecked by red tape and he wanted to see fans set up an old fashioned supporters' association instead.

But Paul Stockton, chairman of the trust, said many members believed the body had a future.

He said the trust was set up more than two years ago under the Financial Services Authority rules.

Mr Stockton said: "It was set up as a positive, inclusive and broadly representative group, open, accessible and democratically run for all supporters of Northwich Victoria Football Club.

"John obviously has difficulty with this concept and just because 'Mr Connett calls the shots now' feels the trust should fold.

"He is entitled to put forward his proposal as the trust is, if nothing else, democratic."

Mr Stockton said Mr Gleave was quite right in pointing out the trust had a problem when three of its members were currently banned from attending matches at the Victoria stadium.

He said: "While this situation continues we will always have a problem.

"Mr Connett could quite easily defuse the division we are currently experiencing by drawing a line under what has gone on and allow the three banned members to attend matches."

Mr Stockton added: "Four members of the seven strong board have put themselves up for re-election at the annual meeting on June 29 and believes the trust has a future. It promises to be an informative evening."
