JUST 28 runs in 40 overs was the difference between two sides, six divisions apart in the Lovelane Cheshire Cup third round.
ECB Premier League side Toft were made to work hard by an impressive young Northwich side, gauging this game as a test of their development against their hosts, who participate in a professional league.
Northwich fielded first, containing the batsmen well.
Mike Brandon's eight overs went for just nine runs and there were three wickets each to teen pace bowlers Scott Hayes and Nigel Goolding.
Only Shaun Mudalige impressed with his 66 in setting a target of 181.
The Northwich reply got off to a poor start at 12-3 but they never gave up the chase, led by Martyn East, who was unbeaten on 48 as Northwich were all out for 153 with three overs spare.
