NORTHWICH Rowing club sent two crews to the prestigious Henley Women's Regatta, held in Henley upon Thames, for the first time in 10 years.
Both crews had been training hard over the past couple of months, coached by Matt Lord.
The first crew to race was the eight, who were up against Villanova University from America.
The visiting Americans put on a good show and oozed power from the start, pulling away from the Northwich girls over the first half of the race, but Northwich fought a hard race. They were eventually beaten by three lengths.
Next up was the quad, drawn against a strong crew from Durham University.
A steering error and a blade clash just outside the first 250metres let the Durham girls grab a lead. Northwich managed to pull it back together but were unable to catch the Durham crew.
