DESPITE England reaching the second-round stage of the World Cup, Sven's men are attracting criticism both at home and abroad from fans and media alike.

So here, the World's very own pundit, former England Under 18s Schoolboys captain and Farnworth resident Craig Heenighan gives us the low-down on their tournament so far.

"England were in need of an improved performance against Trinidad and Tobago after a lacklustre display against Paraguay.

"Expectation was understandably high going into a game against the smallest nation ever to compete at the World Cup, despite their goalless draw against Sweden.

"England enjoyed a lot of early possession and almost scored through Frank Lampard's early strike but, despite Shaka Hislop's parry, Michael Owen wasn't quick enough to the rebound.

"England appeared short of ideas in the final third and became increasingly frustrated by the organised and resolute T and T defence.

"Lampard had numerous first half chances - his best coming after good work by Owen on the left but he volleyed over the bar.

"And Peter Crouch was guilty of something similar - volleying wide from just eight yards out - and only a last ditch John Terry clearance off the line kept the scores level at half time.

"England began the second period with little tempo to their game and became predictable with high balls up to Crouch who struggled to retain possession.

"Owen glanced a header wide from a David Beckham cross after beating the offside trap but the game only came to life when Wayne Rooney made his long-awaited return and Spurs wideman Aaron Lennon came on.

"England's tempo increased and Steve Gerrard came into the game.

"Crouch finally put England ahead after Beckham's fine deep cross and Gerrard ended the contest with a 20-yard screamer.

"Sven's men must improve their performances otherwise they'll be punished by a better side for their lack of creativity in the final third."
