North Wales Coasters 16 Runcorn Vikings 28
RUNCORN Vikings claimed their third win of the 2006 Rugby League Conference Cheshire Division season in a close-fought encounter at North Wales Coasters.
The Vikings opened the scoring with a penalty goal from Liam Ward but the Coasters soon hit back with a try from Ian Wynstanley.
Two further tries from Sean McDermott and Liam Wilde gave Runcorn a 14-4 advantage at the end of the first quarter but North Wales tries from Shane Williams and Gareth Davies levelled the game at 14-14.
A penalty from Wynstanley edged the Coasters in front but the Vikings hit back in the final quarter to seal the win.
Tony Fretwell forced his way over the line to put the visitors back in front before taking advantage of a superb break from Tim Leech to put the game beyond North Wales.
A second try from McDermott on the final whistle sealed Runcorn's first ever away win.
This weekend the Vikings will face Crewe Wolves at Moore Rugby Club and will hope for another win to aid their push for a move into the top half of the league table.
