I HAVE an idea for an annual event that would be lots of fun and would put Halton on the map, like those places that have cheese rolling days and the like.
A tug of war could be held on the bridge once a year, perhaps on New Year's Day, between teams from Runcorn and Widnes.
Whichever won would have the bragging rights to the bridge for a year, so there would be no more worrying about calling it the 'Runcorn Bridge' or the 'Widnes Bridge'.
The winning side can maybe even get to paint a winning band around a strut on their side of the bridge, to show how many times they were victorious.
I think it could become a great annual event, generating money for the economy and giving Halton more civic pride.
