THE Widnes Vikings will be getting on their bikes this month to help promote National Bike Week.

The main aim of the week, which runs from Saturday, June 17 until Sunday, June 25, is to get people cycling more often.

There will be a range of activities taking place across Widnes and Runcorn that have been organised by Halton Borough Council.

The fun will kick off at the Plaza, outside Morrisons and Green Oaks, in Widnes town centre.

Between 11am and 3pm, a wide range of events will be taking place starting with the Widnes Vikings' spinning event, where challengers can take part in vigorous workouts on stationary gym bikes.

The first 10 people to arrive will get a free puncture repair kit and there will also be opportunities to win tickets for a Vikings match and enter a free prize draw to win one of four Centre Parcs family breaks.

Doctor Bike, George McFarlane, will also be on hand with his bike group to offer advice and information on bike first aid issues. George runs the Bike Project on the Stewards Avenue estate in Widnes were he trains volunteers to repair bicycles.

A Cyber Bike will be at Kingsway Learning Centre on Tuesday, June 20.

The cycle simulator has more than 50 pre-set tracks and you can even design your own course.

Norton Priory Museum is offering two-for-one admission to anyone who arrives at the museum on a bike during the weekend of June 17-18 or June 24-25. Cyclists will also be offered a free tour of the recently completed eco building.

The week will close with the Water Cycle Ride, which is a 15-mile family bike ride that is mostly on flat ground. The ride starts at Norton Priory at 10.30am on Sunday, June 25.
