ORGANISERS of the Nantwich '06 Family Fun Day have issued a challenge to the town's youngsters, saying they should prove they are not apathetic by joining the race to be a Community Princess.
The Fun Day's organisers have been disappointed with the number of entrants vying to be this year's princesses and have issued a rallying cry ahead of Monday's competition entry deadline.
They believe it is time for the young people in the town to stand up and be counted.
Organiser and councillor Keith Cafferty said: "It may well be that they are apathetic.
"You can't force children and teenagers to enter but it's disappointing that, having spent a lot of time planning and building it up, some people haven't wanted to know.
"Being community princess means you have been chosen by your peers to be a fit and proper person to represent the town.
"You get the prestige as well as attending community events throughout the year, and it's good for character building.
"Maybe young people are generally apathetic and don't want to take part in this sort of thing."
Cllr Cafferty said that the organising committee would like to hear the youngsters' views so the competition can be made more suitable in future.
Entries for the Senior Princess (U18s) and Junior Princess (U12s) can be made by filling out the form on the left.
Preparations are on-going for the second annual Fun Day on July 8.
